A Night at The Improv
My husband and I are big fans of comedians. Fortunately for us, there is an Improv three miles away from us which we have been frequenting for the last four years or so. We've seen some really great comedians like Chris Titus, Bill Engvall and Jeff Dunham and some that should have been great but tanked (I won't mention their names, but they are well known). I had some free passes that were due to expire so we decided to use them tonight. We arrived at the Improv early to get our tickets. The last few times there had been a line around the building so we thought we should reserve our place in line. There wasn't anyone there but the bouncer standing outside. My husband asked the guy if he knew what time they would start letting people in. The bouncer was really cool and told us we could go in right then. We were the first in the club and had free choice of any seat in the house. Naturally we chose the seats closest to the stage. Since we were the first ones there I thought it would be great to take some pictures of us with the Improv sign in the background. Usually they don't like you to take pictures in the club. My husband actually had the nerve to get up on the stage and grab the mic. I took the picture and it looks like he is performing. Pretty cool. I think he is going to post that picture on his blog. I've included a picture of me sitting on the stage and one of me with Jon Reep taken after the show. It's not a good picture of him, but I'm still going to add it to my collection of pictures I have of me with comedians. So far I have three and you can see the other two on my Flickr account.

Jon Reep is not a big performer but he is working and can be seen doing a commercial for the Dodge Hemi. It's been playing regularly on the T.V. for the last few weeks. The guy looks and sounds like a real redneck and after seeing him tonight I can tell you that it's not an act. He was funny enough to satisfy us even though the crowd was extremely small and somewhat rowdy.

More on Dancing
I had a great time dancing on Saturday. We were at the Acapulco's restaurant where they have a small dance floor in the bar. I arrived exactly at 9:00 p.m. and was greeted by stares from many single men. It was very un-nerving and I was somewhat intimidated. For one thing, I don't do bars or nightclubs very often so I always feel like a fish out of water. Fortunately, my dance partner was there so we found a table and talked for a little bit. It was difficult because the music was already blasting away. I made a point to tell him right in the beginning about my husband and even showed him a picture so that he would remember him from the class. He actually seemed more relaxed afterwards and said that he was glad because he thought that my husband looked like a nice guy to which I agreed. I get that a lot about him, he has this aura that makes people feel relaxed around him and for some reason they are just able to see that he is a good guy. My partner also said that he was relieved because he felt that my husband would be jealous and come after him even though I reassured him that he wouldn't do that.

Once we got warmed up we were dancing quite fabulously and stayed for about 3 1/2 hours. I plan on doing this every weeked because it is so much fun. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I also learned how to Merengue which is extremely fun and very easy to learn. I feel a party animal coming on!

Saturday
So it's finally Saturday. I've been off work since Tuesday and every day since has felt like Saturday to me. I realize that work is only a couple of days away now so I've got that to look forward to. Blech. I've enjoyed sleeping in everyday, lounging around the house in my PJ's and doing whatever the frick I feel like or nothing at all and I wasn't bored one bit. I do have to say that I enjoyed this time off. Of course it's going to be fun trying to get up at 5:00 a.m. again. I haven't heard an alarm go off all week.
We had a great Thanksgiving as you can read on my husband's blog, spent some time with our best friends and had a nice walk afterwards at Downtown Disney. The weather was perfect by the way. It wasn't cold at all once it got dark. The night couldn't have gone any better.

Goin' Dancing
I heard from my salsa partner today. Our last class was last week so we exchanged information and have been emailing each other to keep in touch. He called me today to let me know that he found a restaurant that offers salsa dancing on Friday and Saturday nights. We're planning on going this Saturday so that we can continue to practice. I had so much fun in that class and I sure don't want to forget what I've learned. When my husband and I joined the class we thought it would be fun for us if we didn't tell anyone that we knew each other. Because of that, we both ended up with different partners. During class the question of whether I was married never came up so I figured that I wouldn't have to explain anything to my partner. Of course at the end of the last class as we were leaving he asked me about my marital status. I'm not into lying so I told him I was married but I didn't tell him that my husband was in the class with me. Now that we are going to be spending time together outside of class I have decided to tell him that he has already met my husband. I think it is only right. He's a nice guy and I'm hoping that he'll take it okay. If not, then I guess that's a lesson learned for me.
At this point you may be thinking about my husband's reaction to the fact that I am going dancing this weekend. As far as I know and as much as he has said, he is okay with it. He knows I'm not going to do anything stupid. I'm just interested in practicing my dancing and getting some exercise. If he wanted to go dancing with his partner, I wouldn't have a problem with that. I've met her, I know her from the class and she is not a threat to me. By threat, I mean that she is not a hottie. So that's why I'm okay with him dancing with her. I told my husband that if his partner had been a hottie he wouldn't have had the chance to dance one class with her because I would have thrown her out on her bootie. As it goes, we both did well with our partners, they are very nice people.

My Surprise
I mentioned in an earlier post that I now had my very own laptop, but actually we had only ordered the laptop and were waiting for it to arrive. My husband called me Friday to let me know that he was leaving work an hour early and I didn’t think much of it at the time. I don’t usually question him about things like that. Anyways, after we ate dinner that evening he got up and told me to close my eyes and keep them closed. Then he rustled around in the office for a moment and came out and put something on my lap. Of course by this time I knew that it was my laptop. What I wasn’t expecting and I should have knowing my husband was that he had already spent some time in setting it up for me. That was why he came home early. Since computers are his life it only made sense that he would take care of this for me. Sometimes you just take these things for granted, but I can’t imagine what life would be like for us if he wasn’t such a computer genius. I’m left wondering what it is like for people that don’t know much about computers but want to get one for home use. I think it would be kind of daunting to try and set one of these things up by yourself. Either way, I’m grateful for his abilities because I know that he will always be able to take care of our home computer needs. He’s really awesome and so is my laptop. Thanks Honey! I really like it.

What I Need

I found this from Kyknoords blog. I didn't think I would find anything funny, but I posted what I found and I think you'll have fun trying this yourself. Google your name followed by the word 'needs' and then post the results. I didn't get good results with "Anduin needs" so I used my real name.

Anduin needs...

  1. to be brought down a peg or two
  2. has been warned by the other members
  3. to get rid of the nasty attitude she has developed
  4. to write some functions to figure out how that happened
  5. work on Japanese grammar
  6. assistance with concerts, Music Sundays, and Cabarets
  7. new study skills, organizational skills, time management skills, research skills...
  8. to find a grant making style that her more experienced colleagues can connect with
  9. to be chained up
  10. to cancel the class due to lack of number of registered clients
  11. a chrome pole and a garter so folks of that kind can place dollar bills in it
  12. your generous financial help
  13. to be approved for governmental disability assistance
  14. some more money to expand

Well, that was fun. I was very surprised by numbers 1 - 3. I'm only nasty if you're nasty. Sheesh. I found number 9 and 11 to be hilarious and not a bad idea at that and I'm always open to number 12 and 14.

Back to School
Since I had my epiphany a few months ago about what career I want to pursue I've decided that I need to go to college and get started on my degree. After I graduated high school, I took a few classes at the community college but never completed any of them. At that time in my life I was so fed up with school that I just couldn't do college and really didn't know what I wanted to do with my life. Since then I've lived with a sense of shame because I didn't have a formal education. Well today I'm changing that because I went to take the assessment testing to find out what classes I need to start with. I realize that it's going to take me some time to get through school but I'm determined now.

I did very well with the English part of the test. According to my results, I meet the graduation requirements for reading. Whoopee! Math is a different story altogether, but I already knew that I was challenged in this area so I was not surprised or disappointed when my results showed that I needed to take elementary arithmetic. Do'h! Oh well, somehow I still ended up in the accounting department where I work so I can't be that bad.

Next year is my 20 year high school reunion. I've never wanted to go because I didn't feel as though I had accomplished anything with my life so what was the point of going to see everyone. Isn't that why you go to these things, to show your classmates that you made something out of yourself and that you are no longer the total loser that they knew in school? Well, now that I am going back to school, I feel confident enough to go to this reunion. It may have taken me 20 years to figure out what I wanted to do, but at least I know without a doubt what that thing is.

One of the cool things about going back to school is that I get my very own shiny new laptop! That's right folks, I am now the proud owner of a super duper extra terrific laptop all thanks to my very special and supportive husband. He shopped and compared and got the best deal for our money. And it comes with a printer. Oh yeah, it's good. It's all good.

Question
Q: What is hard and hairy on the outside, soft and wet on the inside, begins with the letter 'c' ends with the letter 't' and has the letters 'u' & 'n' in the middle?

A: A coconut.

Now get your mind out of the gutter and have a great day!

Bah Humbug

It has come to my attention that Christmas is just around the corner. Every year, this holiday sneaks up and bites me in the ass. I do the least about it that I can get away with but I still find it necessary to buy gifts for people, mostly those at work and then family. I really hate having to do this. I would like to disappear for the month of December and resurface sometime after January.

Things I know I’ll have to face that I desperately want to avoid:

  1. Christmas music played 24/7 on the local radio station.
  2. Christmas music played in all of the stores that you have to visit.
  3. People at work asking me a million times what I want for Christmas.
  4. Not getting any of what I said I wanted.
  5. Having to think of good gifts to get for family and friends.
  6. Trying to think of how on God’s good green earth am I going to pay for any of this stuff.
  7. The fact that I don’t really remember what I got last year or bought for others.
  8. The guilt I feel when someone gives me a gift and I didn’t have anything to give them in return. It’s just too much for me to deal with.
  9. Having to discuss my holiday plans with everyone and then having to hear about theirs. Here’s a hint to everyone: I don’t frickin’ care what you are going to do. It’s of no importance to me.
  10. Christmas cards! I hate sending out Christmas cards!

Too many years in a row, I have stated that I was not going to buy anything for anybody only to end up shopping at the last minute because I’ve got this uncontrollable urge to buy gifts for people. Its madness and I wish I could just opt out. Oh how I envy those that have the excuse that it is against their religion to celebrate this commercialized holiday. Bah Humbug, I’m with Mr. Scrooge on this one.

A Flash Back
I was in my car getting ready to go grocery shopping last night and a thought flashed into my head. My thought was that I wish I could go back in time and tell myself that things would turn out okay and not to worry so much about the future. I wanted to tell myself that I had a good job and that I was healthy and happy. I also wanted to tell myself that I ended up with a really great guy, a husband I was proud to call mine and how special he was. It made me tear up a little thinking about the person I used to be as a teenager. How desperate I used to feel about life, like it would never get better.

I think that thought was triggered by the fact that I moved back to the same town where I went through my toughest years as a teenager. I was now driving the same streets where I used to walk as a girl and it made me realize how far I’ve come. I started thinking about all that I have compared to what life was like back then. I think that deep in my mind I always thought that I would never make it this far. Maybe that’s why I had the flashback.

Life since that age has not been easy for me, times have been hard but it’s made me a better person for all of the trials I’ve been through. I wouldn’t give up any of it. I would like to say to that young girl that is still a part of me that I am very proud of you and I’m glad that you decided to stick around. I think you’re a really cool chick.
